Support for Apple HomeKit (8403 2K+)

I have installed and configured my new IN-8403 2K+ PoE dome camera to work in Apple HomeKit. Although it is visible in HomeKit, I am missing some obvious motion that would easily be captured in my other HomeKit cameras.

CONCERNS:

  • Homekit Certified: No (as listed in the camera’s configuration dialog of the Home app) with firmware version 3.9
  • Most motion does not trigger a capture in the Apple Home app nor in the InstarVision app. I have continued to lower the thresholds to a very low setting.
  • IR Night vision threshold seem to have a limited range of sensitivity. The color mode appears to work just fine up to above 250, when I want B&W mode to kick in. However having these threshold close together often results in a number of flashes as the camera switches back and forth between color and B&W modes around dusk & dawn.

This is - most likely - a problem with how the motion detection is configured. We have a YouTube video for that on our website:

General advise:

  • Keep the detection areas small - especially when covering areas at a larger distance from your camera. The smaller the area the lower the sensitivity that is necessary to trigger an alert (high sensitivities increase the risk of false positive alerts).
  • Filter your area alerts with either the PIR motion sensor or AI object detection. Filter allow you to work with areas set to higher sensitivities - to avoid false negative alerts.
    • The PIR sensor works great in indoor scenarios with distances below 12m. Strong temperature changes due to sunlight exposure can trigger false positive alerts. PIR triggers can also be masked by (human body surface temperature) high background temperatures or by thick insulating clothes in winter. In cases where the PIR can fail, use the Object Detection instead. The effectiveness of the OD can be tested by activating it and then using the Object Tracking tile to display detected objects in the webUI livestream.
